Let's Talk Dirt

No property is perfectly flat. Your land's natural slope affects drainage and determines how much fill dirt is needed to properly level and compact the site before pouring concrete.

  • Smaller projects measured in cubic yards
  • Larger projects delivered by truckloads
  • Tight-access areas use smaller trucks (10-12 yards)
  • Larger sites allow bigger trucks (16+ yards) to reduce costs

Cost Factors

Dirt: Inexpensive material
Hauling: Tighter access = higher cost
Compaction: Ensures long-term stability

The bottom line: More slope equals more fill, which equals higher cost. The customer provides the dirt, and Steelhawk provides the proper machinery and expertise to get it done right.

Site Preparation

As part of our turnkey service, Steelhawk handles the dirt work and foundation prep for your metal building. Every site starts with the dirt. Your land's slope and soil type determine how much fill is needed and how your foundation will perform long term.

Using the right fill from the start prevents settling, cracking, and drainage issues down the road.

  • We grade, level, and compact a dirt pad built for your building
  • Inside garages get a smooth concrete finish
  • Outside areas (driveways, aprons, sidewalks) receive a brushed finish for traction

Pricing

Costs depend on site conditions such as slope, soil type, access, and building size. Once we review those details, we will provide you with a base price. Reach out to one of our building specialists for a more accurate estimate.

Slab Thickness Based on Your Needs

Slab thickness plays a major role in how much weight your concrete can safely support. Choosing the correct thickness helps prevent cracking, settling, and premature wear—especially if you plan to store heavy vehicles, operate equipment, or install a car lift.

The right slab ensures long-term performance, safety, and durability for decades.

Not all slabs are the same. We tailor slab thickness based on how you'll use your building—whether it's for cars, RVs, or heavy equipment—so your concrete can safely handle the load now and in the future. Our team will help you select the right slab design so your building is built for both today's needs and tomorrow's.

Stronger Concrete by Default

Many metal building foundations are poured with 3,000 PSI concrete. At Steelhawk, we don't cheap out. We use 3,500 PSI to 4,000 PSI for bigger slabs. Higher-strength concrete means a stronger foundation, better crack resistance, and a longer lifespan.

  • Minimum 3,500 PSI on every foundation—no exceptions
  • Larger slabs typically use 4,000 PSI concrete
  • Higher PSI options available upon request

We work with you to understand how your building will be used, the loads it will carry, and your long-term plans. From there, we make sure the concrete strength matches your needs—nothing more, nothing less. That gives you confidence your building is built to last.
